Kiwi born and bred here and the vote is the best 'right' an individual can have. Personally, I have always thought that due to it being a right, an individual should have the right NOT to vote. In NZ, it is optional.
Kind of makes sense to make it optional.
That coupled with your comment about Preferential Voting - agree entirely.
