Hi you didnt mention if you tried closing apps (re Rembrandts solution) I have also used this to free resources.
NB I always log a backup before removing anything I am uncertain of.
My pet windows tweak is to FIX a memory file size in Virtual Memory. Windows uses virtual memory manager by default. this should be unchecked and an upper and lower memory range is entered (up to 2.5 X available ram). With 128meg ram , you set both upper and lower at 300meg, This will increase speed of applications and it has also seems to have reduced my own resource probs.
