    thank you very much people for your excellent suggestions. i have saved this thread for future use if needed

    i believe i have solved the problem.

    i accidentally unplugged my external monitor and the noise stopped so tested it by reconnecting which apparently was the cause

    have left it unplugged and there has been no annoyances but unfortunately lose the extra screen for a while.
