computer tech help please

On IEXPLORE the other day had a page that was slightly too big and I couldn't read all the text without moving it laterally all the time. Decided to play with buttons on the bottom of the monitor; seemingly without success. Gave up but next time I opened IEXPLORE all I got was a white page (after a very brief vision of the opening page). Google Chrome is OK.It is just the Microsoft explorer. Can someone please tell me how I can get my screen back to normal size. I have tried resetting the monitor to default settings. jwt feeling like a dipstick
