On the shorting topic, the % shorted has certainly been climbing as documented here https://www.shortman.com.au/stock?q=nea
Does anyone know if these numbers represent short volume for opening trades only or opening plus closing trades? Would make a big difference to the interpretation IMO.
austted, I don't think these shorters want to make a killing in general, they just want to make a profit. I don't really agree with the way it's done but we are stuck with this unfortunately.
With any stock gaining market cap value, liquidity and entry to indexes, it would be expected to see the shorting activity increase substantially as a result. Anything that has risen as fast as NEA particularly so, as it has defied gravity better than almost anything on the market this last 12 months.
