Unfortunately it has been very wet throughout the Cape including Skardon River. The rain just keeps coming and the monsoon trough is moving over the region once again. This year is wetter than last and the wet season just keeps on giving to this region. Most of our regional roads are cut and damaged and mining operations around Weipa have been impacted. The old timers tell me the wets are getting back to the ones they can remember in their childhoods. While Skardon is fly and barge in, there are lengthy haul roads cut by rivers out to the mining areas and the water table impacts mining. Yes our people should not have to rely on updates from various sources but this is the nature of MMI. The company used to be quite open during over the few years before mining started, but now only release the bare minimum to satisfy their disclosure requirements. Don't expect too much info if it is not fantastic news and I am sure they will blame it on the weather if they do.
