Warning signs in the Pacific included Tonga's recent volcanic eruption crisis wherein Dutton's good ship lollypop broke down and China came to the rescue of the Tongan People. The message was crystal clear, Australia is neither reliable nor a generous friend and an alternative is China.

The Coalition's warmongering and poking China in the eye has been apparent since Turnbull was knifed. It's cost Australia dearly!

Following the global revelation that China has stumped up $1.3 Billion to assist the Solomon Islands [ten times the support Australia provides] to host the upcoming Pacific Games and reached a security pact with PM Sogavare, Dutton and Morrison have descended into personalised abuse and sabre rattling to obscure their abject failures of Diplomacy 101.

Unlike Morrison and Dutton, the Chinese are not fools. They won't easily be provoked into conflict by fools but may well apply stronger restrictions on imports form Australia.
