    I've heard that whipping doesn't hurt horses due to their thick skin; its use is to provide the horsers with a reminder to go faster - its more like a tap to them.

    I suppose this debate needs to be proven and settled for once and for all.

    Probably more inhumane is their racing feeding regimes, which can give them stomach ulcers.

    I'm a punter by the way. I heard Barbicus is the go for the cup.
