Dividend payment is a normal practice if the company starts earning profits. 2 groups lay claim to each company’s assets as expressed by the equation Assets = Liabilities + Equity. Lenders collect payment via interest. Shareholders collect payment via dividend. Both group’s contributions are repaid but income is via those means - interest and dividend.
