Orwell,
Mate long day just got home. I'll do your post justice as bets as possible now. Novabux I will respond to tomorrow.
Clearly you and I are cut from a different cloth.
I've been solidly grounded in long term fundamental investment principals. Mainly on the industrials side. Seems though as far as hotcopper is concerened this is a foreign concept. Can't recall seeing 100 posts a day on Westpac or CBA or Brickworks. Ever.
My all time favourite long term story and long term holdings are two companies. SOL and CBA. I hold both of these. Not much discussion on HotCopper about either of these.
I'm long on SOL, have been since about 2005 (not churned at all). I simply love this company and everything about it.
Same for CBA (some churning for tax optimisation but my first CBA shares I bought in 1997 as a uni student. Holding a company on a fundamental basis not an issue for me as you can tell.
On those time frames, two months is nothing. FOr you, if you cant see why that's fine, but I am quite willing to look out 5 years, 10 years or more on a stock purchase.
I have (being human) held some gems over the years which I sold out of for one reason or another. Just thinking about them and how much of a multi bagger some of them have become upsets me so I dont.
A trader or TA never (or seldom ever) gets this. A TA that suggests a mutlibagger is possible more for them than for an FA is bs-ing.
So as for Lynas, certainly not going to BS and say I am sitting on a gain. I have a lage parcel, my family and associates have even larger parcels that would put me to shame and embarrass most on here.
I havent seen anything at this point to tell me I should sell. December...or 4 weeks into Q1 2004 makes no difference to me.
PS - have dabbled in covered calls and some bull-put spreads. Its not worth my energy. I'm a buy-side investor. Nothing's going to change that.
You may get some "protection" from your position in Lynas, but you are certainly a year behind me in getting a CGT discount on any gains you make.
PS - the position system on HC is an honour code. My advice to you if you have any integrity is to respect it. If you hold 1 single share you need to say "sotck held". Otherwise everyhing you said was bulldust.
I have holdings in my name, my partner's name, my company, my super fund too. Any or all of those is "stock held" status to me.
