Agree @dplane we need to watch out for defamation in what we say here. I would expect an investigative journalist to be very cued up on this aspect of the law, once the @kacy information is put to her.
I would expect this to include a natural justice process, whereby she gives consideration to contacting Hinrich and putting the potential conflict straight to him and ask why he didn't disclose it. Remember that a "potential" conflict of interest is sufficient to require disclosure, it doesn't have to be actual.
But she's medically trained herself, so I expect she could see through this pretty well. Truth will always be a complete defence to any defamation law suit.
