Offshore or not, JP Morgan Australia and JP Morgan US or HK are RELATED entities. Do you really think that they don't talk to each other and one does not know what the other one is doing ? The heads of each region most likely meet at least once a month as a group, just like any global company.

The Australian entity could tell its related entities in the US or HK to say .. "hey, we are working as an advisor for company A. Could you not lend out the shares you have for company A as it will look like a conflict of interest?"

Or, if you go get personal financial advise from a financial adviser, then you realise that his buddy, also a financial adviser, knows your financial adviser, heck, they are in the same company .. but that other financial adviser is working against you, how would you feel ?
