I do some support work for a family in Government housing. A few months ago they received an invitation from HousingSA to apply for a free solar system and battery.
It was a deal for people on government payments and in Government housing. The deal is they pay nothing , but get no feed in tarrif. However get the benefits of a battery and solar system. Also they join a VPP system and get reduced elextricity charges.
Anyway I encouraged the family to apply, which they did and received the acceptance letter etc. then a site inspection was completed with again an email of approval etc.
Heard nothing for 8 weeks, so on their behalf I contacted them, and was told the company was waiting for housingSA approval. Then they said they didnt qualify for free solar.
Ony batteries 1 or even 2 of them, which will be installed.
I wrote back saying, I dont understand they dont have solar so whats the point of having batteries??

Once again, thank you for reaching out.
The original offering for the SAVPP was for Solar and a Battery to be installed at the participant property. However we found that this excluded a large number of homes from participating as the homes were not suitable to have Solar installed.
Therefore, we are now able to offer 1 x Battery only install and also trialing 2 x battery install only, without having to install Solar. This has allowed us to open up the possibility for many more customers to take part in the SAVPP and take advantage of the benefits offered by signing up with Energy Locals as a SAVPP customer.
All SAVPP installations are carried out by our certified installers only.
Can anyone shed light why have batteries of no solar?
