    In other words the powers that be like it this way.

    For example, nothing hits the death bell for a politician than high inflation.

    What is really troubling is that the economists believe that an ever expanding economy is the "best" thing, whereas I believe most ppl think that sustainable economies are better.

    Of course the "irrational" list is long, e.g.:

    *growing rice in a desert is total crap!
    *growing cotton in a desert is also crap!
    *subsidizes the above is crap!
    *paying income tax AND sales tax (GST) on everything!
    *paying fuel levies and then putting the money into
    general revenue, rather than into roads - which was its
    original purpose
    *using bananas as a input into the CPI (fark, what the
    hell is that and what brainic came up with that? Probably
    another economist!)
    *using surpluses to fund political objectives - its NOT
    THEIR MONEY - they should give is back! Also, it proves
    (to a degree) that Aussies are over-taxed! And please
    don't compare us to other countries, thats hogwash!

    Don't have time to go on, but you get the picture - if I can see a few items I am sure others can see a lot more...
