Because this virus has been operating for weeks not days in mexico. Number of infected today will be much much higher than being reported.
Also the age groups are playing a large part. Notice how heaps of kids have it . They are more immune to it because ironically their immune system is not a strong as 25- 45 age group. Same happened in 1918 outbreak.
Look I dont know 100% if this is the case with Swine outbreak, nobody does!!! but I bet that the virus is causing a immune response for the white bllod cells that then go into hyperdrive to let cytokines into your lungs. ""A cytokine storm"". You then get pnenmonia and drown in your own fluids.
