    Miles,

Perhaps a little tasteless in trying to score points at this juncture however your memory seems to be failing you. It was less than four years ago that nearly 3000 ordinary people, going about their business, were cut down in New York by the same generic Islamist group. There was no American presence in Iraq then.

If this proves to be the work of the Islamist extremists then it is but another confirmation of the accuracy of Blair's claim a few years ago that one of the greatest threats to the peace of the 21stC is international Islamic extremism. From memory he said that before the Brits were involved in Iraq.

The Blair/Bush doctrine of the solidarity and international character of this threat fully justifies fighting it in Afghanistan (via the removal of the Taliban and the many Islamist terrorists training there - 10,000 is a figure that was bandied around) and more particularly now in Iraq as there are many of the international jihadists at work in that country. Make no mistake these (in Iraq) are not new recruits formed by the US presence in Iraq but rather experienced and well trained disciples of the madras’s in Pakistan and the “mad” Mullahs through the ME and down into Nth. Africa.
