Like everyone else I'm also surprised that Shell said no to the option.
elguido I think may be onto something here with regards to possibly some technical issues, as the survey vessel is basically brand new, and although purpose built, it potentially does not yet have enough historical information to provide a guide as to the true quality and accuracy of the data obtained.
A valid question that could be asked is how many configuration and calibration surveys were done by the vessel, over a mix of proven targets, prior to it being hired out in order to comfirm the equipment settings and subsequently the accuracy of any data sampled ?
Interested to hear others thoughts on this.
