Replying to myself as my thoughts continue.
SAS have emphasised multiple times their store-and-forward capabilities in the sats. I suppose this means that if the Pearls pass over they can collect messages and then send them on when they reach a networked tower, picking up return messages and holding them until they are back in range of the original user. This would make asynchronous messaging (particularly IOT and M2M) much more viable with limited windows. And that could be tested on the Diamonds, I guess.
