Article in the AFR review today that says Queensland's $50 billion liquefied natural gas industry moved a step closer on Friday when the Bligh government issued a licence to build a 470 kilometre, $600 million, pipeline fro the south-west gas fields to Gladstone.
The licence was given to Arrow Energy.
It's the first of several licences issued to LNG proponents over the next six months apparently.
Blight and QLD Tresurer Andrew Frazer both indicate in the article they expect consolidation between project proponents before the end of the year, but industry players are keeping cards close to their chest about possible mergers.
"Despite speculation about possibe moves between players, including between BG Group and QGC, Santos and Petronas, Origin Enery/Conoco Philliops and Arrow Energy, there has been no consolidation yet.
