If the share price was 5c and the company are going convert every 8 shares into 1 new share (consolidation).
In theory the new share price should be 8 times greater, because all that has changed is the total number of shares attributed to the company.
Back to the price. If we were 5c before consolidation then in theory we should now be priced at 40c after share consolidation.
