Why would it be finished, trainer?

    1. "The future of the Kingaroy project will remain under constant review until the environmental evaluation process has been completed. A core number of staff will be retained to continue progressing the development of Cougar Energys projects in Australia and overseas."
    (From recent co. media release)

    2. Wandoan, Queensland

Cougar Energys tenement interests in Queenslands Surat Basin represent the next major development step in the Companys growth profile.

Cougar Energy maintains interests in a number of leases in the coal resource rich Surat Basin in Queensland:
41 million tonnes (34 million indicated and 307 million inferred).

This resource exceeded the Companys expectations and now further confirms the reliable continuation of the Macalister Seam occurring in the Walloon Coal Measures upon which EPC 1118 is situated. The size of the resource allows Cougar Energy enhanced flexibility in planning commercial development in the area, including replicating the Kingaroy development.

    3. South Gippsland, Victoria

Cougar Energys interests in Victoria have the potential for large scale low emissions projects utilising brown coal

Cougar Energy entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Ignite Energy Resources Ltd (formerly Victoria Coal Resources Pty Ltd) in relation to the potential for applying UCG technology to the brown coal deposits known to exist within its Exploration Licence (EL) 4416. The Company has reviewed the data on the licence and identified areas (Designated Areas) where coal seams have the potential for exploitation using UCG technology.

These areas all contain the Traralgon coal seam, which is believed to exist at depths between 150m and 400m, with a thickness of at least 20m. Cougar Energy believes that success with the technology will provide Victoria with a very large supply of low cost gas with a wide range of end uses, and with the capability of making significant reductions in the high carbon dioxide emissions applicable to the States current brown coal-fired power generators.

Traralgon has had the bejesus dug out of it and burnt for 50 years, its a mining town/area, so there has to be a fair chance of approvals in the next few years, especially since its not going to burn brown coal into the atmosphere.

    4. May 2010 CHINA UCG JOINT VENTURE ANNOUNCES FIRST PROJECT
Letter of Intent signed for the first project in Cougar Energys China UCG proposed joint venture (CDIC)
Project is in the coal rich autonomous region of Inner Mongolia in the Peoples Republic of China
CDIC and Chinese local partner plan to build and operate UCG gas production facility independent third party utility company to purchase the gas for separately owned power plant
Commercial production forecast to commence by late 2012 (subject to government approvals and gas off-take agreements being in place)
CDIC continues to examine other potential UCG projects in the PRC and Mongolia

China is now a net importer of coal whereas it has previously been a net exporter. They are keen to develop new and environmentally free projects, and they aren't going to be held to ransom by a bunch of local farmers in inner Mongolia. If its a joint venture, dont you think the Chinese will start to fund the development?

    5. COUGAR ENERGY ENEABBA GAS ANNOUNCE WESTERN AUSTRALIA MID-WEST UNDERGROUND COAL GASIFICATION AND POWER STATION DEVELOPMENT PLAN
Signed MOU paves way for a Joint Venture Agreement with Eneabba Gas
Cougar Energy and Eneabba Gas intend to develop an UCG project and power generator in the strong growth region in Mid West Western Australia
Work program expected to commence mid 2010
Accords with Cougar Energys strategy of extending its UCG activities across Australia and creating energy generation hubs.

WA needs to develop power generation to fuel its big resource expansions near Geraldton, and Cougar is likely to be well received there, unlike Kingaroy at he moment.

So Cougar is far from a one project company, but if Kingaroy is unable to restart as a pilot I think it will be a setback because they are using it to reprove the technology.
However, all indications are that the only hazardous leaks have occurred in the lab and that the land around the plant will get a clean bill of health. If that's so the locals will continue to shout, but after the fed election it will be like shouting into a bucket.
With no found pollution and no company fault there will be no reason for the government to stop Cougar proceeding with the reburn, so we have to hope that's the way it goes to get back on track sooner than if the company is found to be at fault.

And finally, from what I have seen and read, Len Walker is very hard to finish off, so I'm going to stay with them.
