Macmahon Holdings, a contracting group operating in the civil construction and mining sector, is a finalist in the 5th Annual Australian Mining Prospect Awards.

With its remote location experience and knowledge of logistics and resourcing, Macmahon Contractors provide a comprehensive mine to mill capability for both surface and underground operations.

During 2007, the business successfully established and renewed contracts totalling more than $700 million with existing customers, serving to demonstrate the strength of the relationships Macmahon has forged and maintained with several of the world's largest mining companies.

The successful acquisition and integration of specialised mining service business, ARD and CRE, in late 2006 has exceeded expectations. Increasing capabilities and adding to the mining portfolio, Macmahon now offers a complete underground mining service to customers.

Current underground contracts include works at the Argyle Diamond Mine in the Kimberley region of Western Australia and the Olympic Dam project in South Australia.

This year, the company formed an Aboriginal contracting business - Doorn-Djil Yoordaning Mining and Construction.

According to the contractor, Doorn-Djil provides a vehicle for tapping into a potential workforce that has been under utilised and is expected to become a significant employer of Aborigines and a commercially viable business in the coming years.
