Yes, contrarian investing isn't just about picking distressed stocks. I have learnt that the hard way! WOW MYR MTS are all down so it is somewhat a sector related weakens. On that you could suggest that we are moving somewhere towards fundamental lows. But knowing the health of individual companies that are having fundamental problems is another story all together. MYR owns no real-estate and sells discretionaries, MTS has massive debt and looming competition, WOW is being slowly over-shadowed by a growing Coles.
How long does this cycle last, and how many bull traps are waiting? Contrarian may mean going long, and so you need to ask yourself, "will this company be here next year?" MYR price can only be bouyed for so long on takeover rumours. A falling market is a great time for reflection and correction.
