Linc Energy said it will move into stage two of its plans for North America, after the company was granted 181,414 acres of underground coal gasification (UCG) exploration licences in Alaska.
Linc Energy said it has been awarded 100 per cent of the UCG exploration program licence area for which it tendered.

Linc says the award win marks the start of the second stage of the company's Alaska plan.

"In conjunction with our continuing oil and gas program, coal exploration for UCG will be conducted aggressively over the next 24 months," said chief executive Peter Bond.

"Alaska is shaping up to be one of the key territories for Linc Energy to launch its global energy operations."

Mr Bond said that Alaska, and the Cook Inlet Basin in particular, hold significant coal deposits.
