Kalimaya: Good post. The perception that Coolgardie wasn't a prolific gold camp was further enhanced in the early 80's when the University of WA gold group put out the theory that gold was preferentially deposited in lower temperature metamorphic terraines(greenschist facies)such as the Kalgoorlie greenstone belt versus higher temperature(amphibolite facies)greenstone belts such as Coolgardie,Forrestania and Southern Cross. What they were saying was that although Gold was found in these belts they would be small and erratic. The major players including the failed geologists(the analysts)bought this hook line and sinker, and the market was told nothing big would ever be found in these belts. It wasn't until the early 90's that the Ontario Government Specialist gold group published a paper using the Red Lake gold Camp, Hemlo gold deposit,etc in Canada hosted by amphibolte rocks which rubbished the theory that greenschist belts preferentially hosted more gold than amphibolit belts. In fact they proved that amphibolte deposits tended to host more ozes per vertical meter or in other words tended to be higher grade and contain more ozes.It has taken the academics many decades to finally realize that gold occurs where you find it which is an oxymoran for a prospector or a field geo, ie Tropicana.
