It is counterproductive in the short term for reducing global temperatures for Australia to be closing down coal fired power stations .
The more soot in the air the better in reducing the amount of sunlight therefore reducing temperatures .
During the 1950s global temperatures actually decreased due to the amount of soot in the air .
There are a number of negatives to the soot from coal fired power stations but to blame them for increasing global temperatures is incorrect .
