    Time marches on, I suppose.

    I know the story of Coon and to me it makes no sense to change the name. But then again...

    Edward William Coon in the US invented a process called cooning for a new cheese. Meanwhile in the US at the time, the guys who burned down thriving African American businesses and neighbourhoods, lynched African American men from trees and erected statues of Confederate Generals at the site of where they had enacted atrocities were calling African American men names. One of those names was "coon", short for "racoon".

    Eventually it became a slur for Aborigines in Australia as well. To me those things are different. But as both terms originated in the US, I think it's probably best to change the name.

    I know a bunch of sooky lah lahs will hyper ventilate and pretend that white people are somehow victims. They always do.

    Best to get on with it and move on.
