NSW Treasurer Matt Keane put it best by saying that the normal way for conservatives was to strive to leave the economy in better shape than when they started.

He also said that the same should apply to the environment.

If it weren’t for the state governments, Australia would be much worse off on both counts. The Federal Government has actively attempted to sabotage a move away from fossil fuels.

For several elections, that has worked for them, as they have pinpointed other vote winning points to get them over the line.

There comes a point when the electorate wakes up to this ploy and realises they have been conned.

In previous campaigns, coal and gas miners have been amongst their most staunch supporters.

Well a great many of those workers now own lithium, cobalt, graphite, copper, nickel and hydrogen shares.

They are also seeing what is happening at FMG, WPL, BHP, Rio, MIN and other traditional miners and it ain’t fossil fuel all fossil fuels.

Comments on forums for those miners have swung heavily in support of critical minerals that the energy transition needs.

The longer the government puts off the election the harder it will be.

Already COP26 has signed huge numbers of countries to commit to less methane and to halt deforestation.

Australia did not support the first but did the second.

It appears that we don’t want to tackle the things that are hard and do the most damage.
