Just a thought about copper and climate change
Just had a look under the bonnet of my truck to see how much copper there was there in all the bits and bobs I would guess with the alternator and starting motor about 20 kg's
I was wondering what the copper in an electric vehicle would weigh, the sort you might need in a hybrid or straight electric vehicle ............maybe 60 Kg just for the motor
lets see, Extra 40kg.. 25 million new cars each year ...extra 1 billion kgs of copper ?
we will need some for the wind turbines, tidal power, Geo thermal, hydro etc etc. and those copper cables have to get pretty thick when you stick a lot of amps through them.
Are we going to have enough copper to go round ?
Dont forget we are going to need some extra lead for the car batteries say 400 kgs per car................
But we wont be needing all that platinum anymore cos the catalytic converters will have nothing to convert......
