Copper over $7000 a tonne.
Workers at the Escondida copper mine in Chile put down quite a marker in the third round of contract negotiations with part-owner and operator BHP.
The union is demanding a one-time bonus equivalent to 4% of dividends distributed to BHP shareholders in 2017.
That works out to about $34,000 per worker. It would be the biggest bonus payout to mineworkers ever in Chile.

I am a long term holder since the Oxiana days and have seen the good the bad and the ugly with OZ but really like the direction Andrew Cole is taking us. West Musgrave, Carrapateena projects and now the AVB take over and I can see plenty of blue sky a head.
I don't post very much but usually read a lot and lately have been having a good laugh at some of the posts over on the AVB thread re the takeover. Two thing made me chuckle a bit louder.
1. The guys who tried to form some sort of unity regarding stopping the takeover for a better price are now turning against each other.
2. Someone posted on Hot Copper that their comments they made are affecting the price and the chance of another company putting in a higher takeover bid. Do those guys really think that everyone who owns AVB shares reads their
comments on Hot Copper especially the 2G's.
