IMHO, one other problem if Chinese smelters are not treating Copper Concentrate, then apart from not producing copper metal, they are also not producing Sulphuric Acid (H2SO4) via treatment of furnace gases.
Sulphuric acid is a highly versatile industrial chemical used in a wide range of processes at downstream facilities within large industrial parks.
Here are some of its common applications:
- Fertilizer Production: Sulphuric acid is a key ingredient in the production of phosphate fertilizers, which are essential for plant growth.
- Metal Processing: It's used in various metal leaching and pickling processes to remove impurities and prepare surfaces for further treatment.
- Chemical Manufacturing: Sulphuric acid is a critical starting material for the production of many other chemicals, including sulfuric acid derivatives, polymers, and pigments.
- Oil Refining: It plays a role in the refining of petroleum products by removing impurities and improving product quality.
- Water Treatment: Sulphuric acid can be used for adjusting water pH levels in industrial processes and wastewater treatment.
- Other Applications: It also has applications in numerous other industries, such as textile production, battery manufacturing, and the production of detergents.
The specific use of sulphuric acid in a downstream facility within an industrial park will depend on the types of industries present. However, the applications listed above represent some of the most common uses.
Therefore, Russia may need to also export Sulphuric Acid to areas where the Chinese smelters are shutdown!!!
