17/04/2024 - Rio Tinto warns against underinvestment..................The head of mining group Rio Tinto, Dominic Barton, warned at a conference in Singapore on Monday that the low level of investment in the global mining sector was jeopardising the transformation of global energy production. There is a growing gap in critical raw materials such as copper Barton said the gap was "gigantic". It was questionable whether this gap could be closed at all. The industry has invested far too little in recent years, hundreds of billions of dollars less than necessary.Barrick Gold is mining less copperThe Canadian gold producer Barrick Gold has presented its first figures for the winter quarter. According to the company, production was 40,000 tonnes after a good 51,000 tonnes in the fourth quarter. Production in Zambia in particular declined.
