There have been a few posters questioning why the Aeris share price has not continued to rise? Looking back, on March 12th the Aeris share price was 11.0 cents. On March 14th the copper price closed above $4.00 USD/lb for the first time in many months. The share price and the copper price rose quickly for a month and on April 12th the share price finished at 27.0 cents and the copper price at $4.27 USD/lb. For the last month up till May 12th the share price has range traded between 24.5 and 29.5 cents, whilst the copper price has continued to rise closing at $4.65 USD/lb on Friday. That 38 cent rise in the copper price translates to a $38 million improvement in NPAT over a 12 month period at a 30kt annual copper production rate (which is what Aeris has been consistently projecting to deliver).
Thinking in the shorter term, that's a $3.2 million a month improvement in the bottom line since the Aeris share price stopped rising in concert with the copper price after April 12th. If the copper price stabilises around it's current level, or continues to rise, then something will have to give one way or the other. Eventually, either the copper price will need to fall to match current shareprice valuation or the shareprice will need to rise to match the current copper price. Time will increase the pressure either way, as the Aeris bottom line continues to consolidate quickly each month at current prices.
At the current copper price my estimate is that Aeris should be booking around $5 million AUD per month in profit, based on it's current projected production rate.
Having taken a breather for a month, I wonder what the catalyst will be to get the share price moving again?
