When focusing on EV in 2020/21 it was all about cost per a kWh and how in a few years EVs would be cheaper then petrol cars($50 / $70 kwh) and at that point we would see mass adoption.

In 2022 that narrative went out the window when for the first time per KwH actually rose and If battery metal prices continue to stay elevated or rise further that goal will be unachievable.

Most people probably weren't even paying attention but in 2020 it was like $115 worth of lithium in an EV and now it's like $2k. What happens if lithium 10x+ again?

Lithium needs a new battery type to be commercialized for grid storage just like nickel needed LFP.
