It's all frontier stuff. I understand the range anxiety issue in places like the USA and Oz and that it may be overcome by more rational behaviour. I live semi-remote and in our community we are talking about community level response to a changing climate as we all share bushfire threat and we share in planning for responding for that. We are lobbying for a community battery but we are also talking about how we might also create our own distributed communal battery from EVs that are idle in garages. I know this is a marginal case.
I also think about hot swapping batteries from EVs. Imagine if there was some interchangeable format that EV batteries conformed to and you could approach a machine that swapped out your battery with a fully charged one in a few minutes. I know this is an approach being adopted by motor scooters. I also know that Vietnamese owned Vinfast, which has plans to build a production plant in the USA for its SUV EVs (all still on the drawing board) have a plan to retain ownership of the battery which will come as a leased item with the car sale.
