Some light weekend reading, for those that are interested.

Not as bullish as the Goldman Sachs copper report (dated 8 October 2021).

Citi base case long-term copper price of US$9,000 per tonne (US$4.08/lb), based on the estimated price required to incentivise sufficient scrap copper to rebalance the market. Reflecting an IPCC 2-degree (Paris Agreement) consistent path for decarbonisation related consumption.



UN Climate Change Conference (COP26)
The UN Climate Change Conference (also called COP26) will be held in Glasgow, Scotland during the first week of November 2021. The conference was delayed 12 months by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The conference also includes the 3rd meeting of the countries signed up to the legally binding Paris Agreement. At COP26, parties must:

(a) finalise the Paris Rulebook (the detailed rules that make the Paris Agreement operational);
(b) accelerate action to tackle the climate crisis through collaboration between governments, businesses and civil society.

Electrification of transport is a key topic at this conference. Benefits copper.

The outcomes and targets of COP26 will be critical if significant global progress is going to be achieved by 2030.

One to keep an eye on.
