"and all for something that in enlightened countries is totally legal and widely used for both recreation and medicine"

That argument just does not fly with me.

Just because we find it culturally acceptable doesn't mean it allows us to break other country's laws and disrespect their culture.

I find it quite ironic because most of you probably jumped and "frothed at the mouth" when the Afghan man married a 13yo girl. He could very well argue that it is totally acceptable in his culture. Just like a lot of you are arguing that marijuana is more or less accepted in ours. What about all of us who hate the thought of arranged marriages, not taking your burqa off for police, genital mutilation or even honour killings?

We all have VERY VERY strong views on all of these which are often/usually acceptable in their own culture. We all stand by the "you live in our country, you live by our rules".

But no, when Schappelle Corby goes to a country which has a much different view on drugs to what we have, all of a sudden we become hypocrites and want her treated differently.

We don't want leniency in our courts for cultural beliefs so why should we expect other countries to treat us differently?
