The whole thing is a media circus now. Indonesian anti-drug campaigners are pushing for the death penalty and the Australian public who are used to living in powder-puff land of weak laws and penalties are being woken up to the reality that the world is not such a cosy place as they imagine it to be.
On the wall outside a nightclub I went to in the Philippines recently was a large rough sign that the locals had erected reading "Keep the Philippines clean kill the drug pushers". Can you even imagine that in Australia, and they mean it literally too as the Philippines also has a policy of the death penalty for illicit drugs.
