I met the king of Tonga once. I didn't realise Tonga had a king. He had nothing to do with me, not Australia but I certainly showed respect for the protocol of meeting someone who holds such a title in a country. The main bit of protocol was to walk up shake his hand and then walk backwards without turning my back on him.

I didn't know the bloke from a bar of soap, not did I care that they had a monarchy. But in a sign of respect to that country, their customs and beliefs, I didn't hesitate to show that respect.

It's no different to the king in Thailand who is beloved. Before every movie is played they show video of the king. I stand with the rest of the Thais out of respect to their culture.

Even though I am not a fan of the Muslim religion, I would certainly show the necessary respect to monarchy in the ME. Ok, maybe I get beheaded if not but that's another story.

The Thai king is Thai, and the Tongan king is Tongan.

We are merely asking for the Aussie head of state, to be an Aussie. Not a big ask is it?? Really??

Must go. Have faith Aussies. Have faith in your fellow countrymen.

An Aussie for head of state!! Bring on the great Republic of Australia.
