    Coretrack names new CEO
    Peter Williams, The West Australian

UPDATE 2.35pm: WA drilling services company Coretrack has appointed oil and gas industry specialist Bernie Kelly as chief executive as the company moves into deep well drilling.

Mr Kelly is the former head of multinational Baker Hughes' Australasian operations.

He replaces Nanne van 't Riet, whose term as chief executive was abruptly terminated early this month, seven months before he was due to step down.

Coretrack said Mr Kelly's 15 years of oil and gas experience and proven leadership qualities made him an ideal person for the job.

"Bernie is a great fit for the company at this point in time and we are very pleased to welcome him aboard," Coretrack chairman Matt Birney said.

"I have no doubt that he will be able to hit the ground running with his strong grasp on the industry."

Coretrack is expanding beyond minerals drilling into oil and gas, and is gearing up for its first contract in the Whicher Range in the South West using an experimental rig.

The company will also be undertaking a commercial field trial of a core level recording device.

Coretrack's shares closed up one cent, or 12.35 per cent, at 9.1 cents.

    Ends.
