You're right about the greatest changes taking place now. Australia, right up till the Witlam days was a backwater type of a country. Extremely conservative parents who wouldn't let their kids venture out into anything. Then, suddenly, kids completely rebelled, or at least, jumped the fence and tried the new -often sh1tty- way of life: drugs, drums and deadbeats. All the horses bolted out at the same time and control was totally impossible. The same thing with the relationship between government and business. Government abrogated their responsibilities to these spoiled, thugs with the new money and so they became uncontrollable and they are now the uncontrollable rulers.

It just happened suddenly, very suddenly because the ALP had behaved in an even more neocon manner, more conservative manner, more right wing, tight fisted way than the Libs. Menzies would be considered an ALP man by today's standards.

Tight lips, tight ar ses, tight wallets, a love for surpluses rather than services, crushed the spirit of the low earners who see no way out, particularly since wages are ever falling and their purchasing power is becoming smaller by the day. And all the time, they hear about cuts to their earnings, whether in employment or out.
