Try reading something other than the mainstream media narratives for a while. After a few years of comparing both sources you might even have a good laugh occasionally.
The fact is, if you obey the laws of China and do your best to contribute to it's growth and success you have nothing to fear. In fact you will likely share the benefits that flow from that. If you an habitual stirrer against the government you will seen as an enemy of the state and will be warned. Keep it up and you will suffer the consequences.
China is cutting off all possibilities that the western establishment can use to infiltrate and bring down the government. All the western establishment can do now is continually criticise China in the media (that the establishment controls). That's what you are reading. There are many good stories coming out of China but you will never hear about them.
IMO, China might modify it's system of government, perhaps something along the lines of the Singaporean system, but it's far too early to do that.
