I honestly believe that it makes no sense to focus only on China. Sure it was first obvious there - and diagnosed - and as far as we know that was its origin. But even if you want to criticise them for being slow off the mark to act they have acted and appear to have got some sort of control. But other countries have been slower still. I’ve seen statistics about death rates in different countries. By far the worst is Italy. We don’t really know about the US because they haven’t got testing facilities in place. In fact it looks to me as though China, South Korea and Singapore have a reasonable handle on tackling it - each using slightly different methods. Europe seems to have patchy policies and practices that make them vulnerable. uk appears to have adopted a wait and see attitude with some commentary around building herd immunity. Australia - well I’m confused. I mean we have a cabinet minister who has been diagnosed, a pm who has been in close contact and instead of self isolating says he doesn’t need to. We have movie stars travelling. We now have a national cabinet of state and federal ministers who intend to get together. Why would you do that? Why wouldn’t you use technology to replace travel for these talk fests. Sorry but there is nothing wise about it add to that the eternal mix of human fear and greed and the contagion of panic and you have a perfect storm in this interconnected world of ours. If you go back to the data rather than worrying about who caused it all we would be far better off asking some other questions like: what do we need to do to stay healthy rather than buy toilet paper, how can we contribute to health of the community, how do we stop ourselves being subjected to the fear that causes irrational behaviour and the spread of contagion, how do we stay connected even if we stay isolated.

We need to make sure that the idiots who caused this aren't allowed to repeat the exercise in a few years time. Honestly, do you have any idea what they buy to eat at their wet markets? Time to fight the disease with every measure but lessons must be learn't from this episode.
