the death rate on the sea princess was 1% ( 7 dead out of 697 infected). The sea princess was a closed area and everyone was tested so it is a true scientific rate. The rate for a society is difficult to calculate because not everyone is tested so its impossible to calculate the exact mortality rate. Also it would be wrong to ascribe corona as the cause of death if the deceased had other medical conditions at the time of death.
The effect of corona can be measured by comparing the statictics from a year earlier. There may be no jump in fatalities at all as happened in the Sarrs case despite much alarm at the time.
Most of the people die because of corona plus some other condition so it would be wrong to attribute a death to corona alone which is happening at the present time. In any cse, wearing a mask may be just as effective as a lockdown and border restrictions. NZ AUS and Britain follow the same guidelines because they belong to the same culture and it gives the leaders comfort to know that they are all folowing much the same procedure. Asian cultures follow a different set of rules and in Korea there is no lockdown, no border closure and no subsequent loss to the economy. However you wont see any Brit nz or aus politician wearing a mask because it is not part of the cultrue. And that is why western people may die unnecessarily. In Korea there is no social distancing because 100% of folks wear a mask. China is opening up its business centres and Korea never shut down Western countries should look to the east for answers.
