I think criticizing the Chinese Gov over their handling is fair.
In fact, if you knew of Chinese people and business people over there, many hold the same view.
Now, I have not spoken to all of them or know all their views, but from my limited contacts I have had since this outbreak, most Chinese want to kick out their Gov, for their slow response and lack of communication early on.
But they are NOT the only ones who stuffed up.
The European Gov (Italian) initially tried the "Herd Immunity" approach. This was disastrous as it allowed the virus to quickly spread across Europe, then into the US and Australia.
And when the death rates started rising, the European Gov freaked out and changed policy. Ultimately, they went into lockdown. That is what we have today.
Unfortunately, it was too late. By then, there were hundreds of thousands of European infected.
The US Gov was also slow to react to close the borders with Europe. When they did, it was too late, the virus had taken hold of New York.
We were also slow in closing our borders with Europe and the US as well - its the reason why we now have 5,000 cases.
Now, the world has over 1M cases. Whereas, a little over a month ago (in late Feb), the world had about 100k infection, with over 80k in China. At the time, we had 15 cases and 11 had recovered and the other 4 was in quarantine.
Now, in many parts of the world, it is out of control.
This virus is invisible to the naked eye. Its symptoms are like that of the Flu. And it spreads very quickly - doubling every few days.
Yes, governments in China and governments around the world have made mistakes, but it does not mean we should give up and relent to the Herd Immunity strategy.
This virus can be beaten. We just need to work together and learn from other's mistakes.
Continue to practice social distancing and wash your hands regularly.
We just need to do this for a few months and it will be over.
