Hi Thorburn and Furpo2
Thorburn - Good advice. I plan to be very selective and I think it is still too early to re-enter with my cash balance. In the 1987 crash I lost a high % of my portfolio - but very little in terms of $ as I only had a very small portfolio, mostly of specs and a few good large miners. This - poor asset class selection and wrong entry points - was a very valuable lesson (a classic kick in the backside lesson you never forget) By 2008 my portfolio was much larger and well diversified with many fundamentally good companies. I did not sell in the GFC - I purchased more shares in the GFC.
However, this coronavirus issue, low interest rates, and high debt levels leaving both monetary and fiscal policy with little clout is a very different environment to navigate.
Furpo2 - I agree, picking the bottom is extremely unlikely but buying good value is a distinct possibility.
