Social media creates a permanent record. The history cant be removed like a toppled statue.

Large swathes of people, lobby groups and politicians have for months argued and pestered decision makers to ease restrictions because because because. There is always a because.

There was an idiotic view that there could be a middle path but the maths of the virus is known clear. There can be no middle path.

The impact of limited but effective lockdowns on business is far less that what happens when people hide under their doonas at home indefinitely as the virus circulates through the community. I am cranky with Business Council over an article in the AFR yesterday which reported their key people whinging about the Victoria - NSW border.

For ages I've been calling the Victorian situation as trillion dollar stuff up. From the nanosecond the sex addicted quarantine guard spread through his extended family whose members spread it through other extended families and they all went shopping and to work it was going to be a trillion dollar stuff up.

Then there are far left agitators such as Socialist Alliance and other groups who pretended to care about black lives. If they did care they wouldn't have done what they did. And on the far right we have Australian Trumpists whose aim is to spread conspiracy theories about the virus being no worse than the flu and it all being a media hoax. Countless thousands of Victorians believe this idiotic crap and have refused testing as a consequence …….. and so Victoria will be in lockdown for many weeks as a consequence.

Back to the pigeon hole flats in Melbourne. As far as I can see there are some idiots in authority who have learned nothing from the Diamond Princess fiasco in Japan. Messaging to residents needs to be far better, food options need to be far better and options to get out of those prisons need to be on the table. Line-ups to get a loaf of bread off a pallet ensure that the virus will spread amongst residents.

All we can do is take the loss and move on in the hope that lessons have been learnt.
