We are now at 3 non-exec directors and 3 exec directors. More action and less talk is needed about appointing a further non-exec independent director in order to reach a majority of independent directors, and to provide for a chair of audit, remuneration and nomination committees, who is not the chair of the company. At this stage half measures won't cut the mustard, or diffuse criticism in this area. Ideally any new independent non-exec director should be female, however in the short term this may not be practical. Appointment of a female director may need to be planned as part of board renewal for later in 2018.
