If the law of the prophets was replaced by a new covenant, the words of Jesus are false: think not that I have come to abolish the law of the prophets, is false. "For assuredly, I say to you, till heaven and earth pass away, one jot or one tittle will by no means pass from the law till all is fulfilled" is false.
It is a false statement if Jesus came to fulfill and thereby abolish the law of the prophets in spite of claiming he had not come to abolish.
If to fulfill means to abolish, then Jesus came to abolish the law in spite of saying the opposite.
