He saved them because if the party didn't boot Abbott, the ALP would have a huge majority and Bill Shorten would be PM.
The LNP would have won outright and would be able to form Government if Abbott had retired. Abbott as leader would have seen LNP down to 50 seats... Yet even at 50 seats, Cory would still be in the senate.
How is it possible in a democracy to have someone like Cory protected from the electorate process?
